SACAC’s IFAC MMM2019 Author Sponsorships

Introduction

The 18^th Symposium on Mining Mineral and Metal Processing (MMM2019) is one of the most prominent events on the calendar of process control engineers. SACAC is proud to be hosting the symposium from August 28^th to 30^th in Stellenbosch.  To enable employees and students of SACAC’s industrial or institutional members to participate in this international event, sponsorship money is made available to send eight SACAC member to the congress.

The available sponsorships are:

• Two for Industrial or institutional members, less than 100 km from Stellenbosch R11,000 each
• Two for Industrial or institutional members, more than 100 km from Stellenbosch R18,000 each
• Two for student members, less than 100 km from Stellenbosch                                 R5,500 each
• Two for student members, more than 100 km from Stellenbosch R12,500 each

A person is eligible for sponsorship if the person:

1. is an author of a paper accepted for presentation at MMM2019
2. is an employee or student of one of SACAC’s members, and
3. the SACAC member’s fees are paid in full.

Only one author per paper can be supported. Presentation of the papers at the congress by the winners is a requisite for support.

Application for Sponsorship

Application for sponsorship should be addressed to the SACAC Secretariat (secretariat@saca.org.za) and contain the following information:

Paper submitted to congress

Proof of acceptance of paper

Employer details (industrial member), or Supervisor details (institutional member)

Key Dates

MMM 2019 gives notification of acceptance to authors on    5^th May2019

The deadline for applying for SACAC sponsorship is              10^th May 2019

The sponsorships will be awarded by                                         17^th May 2019

The deadline for final submission of papers and                     24^th May 2019
early registration is

Adjudication

To avoid conflict of interest between the SACAC Executive Committee and the applicants, people serving on the Executive Committee may not serve on the adjudicator panel. The panel of adjudicators will be announced on SACAC’s website. Applications for industrial members will be adjudicated by a panel of people selected from SACAC’s institutional members, and vice versa. Between three and six people from SACAC’s industrial members should serve on the panel evaluating applicants from SACAC’s institutional members, and between three and six people from SACAC’s institutional members should serve on the panel evaluating applicants from SACAC’s industrial members.

Adjudication Criteria

The panel of adjudicators will select the top articles from the submissions. The aim is to find an article with exceptional content, rather than simply a well-written article with regular content. The following criteria will be used:

General or specialized industrial relevance? Relevance to SACAC’s target audience?

Information: [40%]

Potential for industry application? Potential further academic research?

Content is [30%]:

Intelligible and non-trivial to professionals in industry
