Practical guide to the management of “Bad Actor” alarms

The South African Council for Automation and Control will be hosting a webinar on the management of “bad actor” alarms.

Abnormally high process alarm rates can usually be traced back to a few “Bad Actor” alarms. These “Bad Actor” alarms are the result of instrument faults, poor DCS/SCADA configuration or process design. Excessive alarms to the operators create an active hindrance to their ability to act effectively as well as an operational culture of alarm acknowledgement without proper analysis.

In this webinar we will present the work process of identifying the “Bad Actor” alarms and their resolution. The application of this work process has yielded significant improvement in the performance of the alarm system. Advanced alarming techniques, like “state based” and “flood suppression”, will be demonstrated at this years’ event.
