SACAC’s IFAC2020 World Congress Author Sponsorship
The triennial IFAC World Congress is one of the most prestigious events for control engineers across the globe. The next World Congress will be held in Berlin (Germany) from 12-17 July 2020. To enable employees and students of SACAC’s industrial or institutional members to participate in this international event, sponsorship is made available to send them to the congress. A person is eligible for sponsorship if the person:
- is an author of a paper accepted for presentation at IFAC2020 (12-17 July 2020),
- is an employee or student of one of SACAC’s members, and
- the SACAC member’s fees are paid in full.
The sponsorship amount is set at R35,000.00. Only one author per paper can be supported. The sponsorship aims to cover the conference fees, flights, and accommodation. The allocation is for the discretion of the sponsored author. Note, there is a special registration fee for authors from developing countries. We encourage authors to make use of this fee.
Presentation of the papers at the congress is a requisite for sponsorship. At the conclusion of the congress you will be requested to write a brief report regarding your experience for inclusion in SACAC’s bi-annual newsletter. Application for sponsorship should be addressed to the SACAC Secretariat and contain the following information:
- Paper submitted to congress
- Proof of acceptance of paper
- Employer details (industrial member), or Supervisor details (institutional member).
The deadline for applying for SACAC WC sponsorship is: Friday 13 March 2020
The sponsorships will be awarded by: Wednesday 25 March 2020
The deadline for final submission of papers to IFAC2020 is: Tuesday 31 March 2020
For any questions, please contact the SACAC Secretariat firstname.lastname@example.org
To avoid conflict of interest between the SACAC EXCO and the applicants, people serving on the EXCO may not serve on the adjudicator panel. Applications for industrial members will be adjudicated by a panel of people selected from SACAC’s institutional members, and vice versa. A paper will be reviewed by at least three experts in the field.
The panel of adjudicators will select the top articles from the submissions. The aim is to find an article with exceptional content, rather than simply a well-written article with regular content. The following criteria will be used:
General or specialized industrial relevance?
Relevance to SACAC’s target audience?
Potential for industry application?
Potential for further academic research?
Content is [30%]:
Intelligible and non-trivial to professionals in industry.
